Standing on Sobornaya Ploschad (Cathedral Square) which was previously known as, and still occasionally referred to as, Ploschad Revolyusti (Revolution Square) is a statue of the Soviet statesman Mikhail Kalinin. Kalinin was born in the Tver Governorate in 1875 and the city of Tver was named Kalinin in his honour from 1931 to 1990. This statue was unveiled in 1955 where the Transfiguration of the Saviour Cathedral once stood.
