Narovchat
Narovchat is the oldest continually inhabited place in Penza lands and was previously known by the names Nuridzhan in the 13th century and then Mokhshi, when it became part of the Golden Horde. Today this settlement is most famous for the Troitse-Skanov Convent located in the village of Skanovo just outside Narovchat. The monastery includes a complex of caves.
