Borovsk

Borovsk is a pretty provincial city in the Kaluga Region. It is most famous for its connections with the Old Believers movement, as the prominent Old Believers Avvakum and boyarinya Morozova were exiled here. Just outside the city is the Pafnutievo-Borovsky Monastery. Another reason for visiting is the city's connection with Konstantin Tsiolkovsky - the rocket scientist considered the grandfather of Soviet space travel - who lived in Borovsk for over a decade. The city can be visited as a day trip from Moscow or combined with a visit to Kaluga.
