Karl Marx Monument
Installed in the walls of the city gardens is one of the oldest monuments in Russia to Karl Marx having been unveiled in 1919. The monument is rather simple in form and comprises of just Marx's giant head on top of a pedestal. The pedestal is inscribed with the quote "Proletarians of all countries, unite! Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communist Revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win." The monument was removed in 1991 but later reinstalled in 1997.
