Ğabdulla Tuqay Monument

Ğabdulla Tuqay Monument (July 2013)

Ğabdulla Tuqay (Gabdulla Tukai) is one of the most famous Tatar poets who is credited with being the founder of modern Tatar literature. This monument to him was donated to Moscow by the Republic of Tatarstan where the poet was born and where he died just before his 27th birthday. It was unveiled in 2011 on the 125th anniversary of Tuqay's birth. The statue depicts the poet sat on a bench with an open book lying next to him on the bench.
