Around Ulitsa Petrovka
Hermitage Gardens
Situated where Ulitsa Petrovka becomes Ulitsa Karetny Ryad are the Hermitage Gardens which were opened in 1895. Their founder was Yakov Schukin - a theatre entrepreneur and patron of the arts - who wished to create an open space in Moscow where people could enjoy cultural events. For this purpose, located within the park are several theatres including the Novaya Opera Theatre and the Hermitage Moscow Theatre. Also located in the park are several monuments, including busts of Victor Hugo and Dante.
