Resurrection Church in Uspensky Vrazhke

Resurrection Church in Uspensky Vrazhok (August 2013)

Opposite to the Mstislav Rostropovich Monument is the Resurrection Church in Uspensky Vrazhke. The church was built between 1629 and 1634 to replace an earlier wooden version which had burned down. Originally it just consisted of a cubic structure with a single dome, but a vestibule and a bell tower were built onto the front between 1818 and 1820. An extra tier was subsequently added to the tower in 1879. The church remained opened during the Soviet period, although its bells were removed.
