In the small park between Voznesensky Pereulok and Leontievsky Pereulok next to the Azerbaijani Embassy is a statue of the mediaeval poet Nizami Ganjavi who wrote some of the greatest romantic epic poems in Persian literature. Nizami was born around 1141 in Ganja which is now part of present-day Azerbaijan, hence the statue's location next to the embassy. The monument was unveiled in 1991.
