Mstislav Rostropovich Monument

Mstislav Rostropovich Monument (August 2013)

A short walk down Bryusov Pereulok, which eventually leads to Ulitsa Tverskaya, is a monument to Mstislav Rostropovich. Rostropovich was a Soviet/Russian conductor and one of the greatest cellists of the 20th century. He was born in Baku (today the capital of independent Azerbaijan) but later moved to Moscow and entered the nearby Pyotr Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. Rostropovich died in 2007 in Moscow and this statue of him playing the cello was unveiled in 2012.
