Aram Khachaturyan Monument
In the small park outside the House of Composers is a statue of the great Soviet/Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan surrounded by musical instruments. Khachaturyan was born near Tbilisi (then known as Tiflis) in 1903 and moved to Moscow in 1921 where he graduated from the Pyotr Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and later became known as one of the "Titans of Soviet Music" along with Sergey Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich. His most famous piece of music is the "Sabre Dance". This monument was a gift from Yerevan to Moscow and unveiled in 2006 in the presence of President Robert Kocharyan of Armenia and Mayor Yuri Luzhkov of Moscow.
