Around Tverskoy Bulvar
Sergey Yesenin Monument
Around halfway up Tverskoy Bulvar, close to Novopushkinsky Skver, is a statue of the poet Sergey Yesenin. Yesenin is one of Russia's most celebrated 20th-century poets. He published his first book of poetry in 1916 and in 1918 set up his own publishing house and became a founder of the Russian 'imaginism' literary movement. However in 1925 at just 30 years old Yesenin hanged himself. The rumour that NKVD agents were involved in his death has never been confirmed although it hasn't been ruled out either. This popular statue of Yesenin was unveiled in 1995 on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Just next to the statue is a small monument of Pegasus.
