St Theodore the Studite's Church at Nikitskie Vorota
St Theodore the Studite's Church dates from approximately 1626 and marks the spot where Patriarch Filaret was met by his son Tsar Michael upon his return from Polish captivity in 1619. Later Patriarch Filaret established the Feodorovsky Monastery here, of which this church was a part until the monastery's dissolution in 1709. The Napoleonic war hero Aleksandr Suvorov was a parishioner at this church and when the church was closed after the Russian Revolution there were plans to turn it into a museum dedicated to him. This never occurred and the church was reopened in 1992.
