Vagankovskoe Cemetery
The Vagankovskoe Cemetery was founded in 1771 during an outbreak of the plague in what was then the village of Novoe Vaganka. Over time the cemetery has become one of the largest in the city and the final resting place of several notable people, the most famous of them being Vladimir Vysotsky, Sergey Yesenin and Bulat Okudzhava. The cemetery's church is the Resurrection Church which dates from 1824 and is an example of the empire style of architecture. Located next to the Vagankovskoe Cemetery is a separate Armenian cemetery.
