The Nativity of St John the Baptist Church at Presnya was built in the empire style between 1714 and 1734 to replace an earlier wooden version which existed since at least 1685.  It was built according to a design by the well-known architect Fyodor Shestakov.  A new bell tower was built on in the classical style between 1806 and 1810.  During the Soviet era the church remained open and was even renovated during the 1960s.
