In 2012 a monument was erected of Pyotr Stolypin on Ploschad Svobodnoy Rossii (Freedom of Russia Square), outside the House of the Russian Government, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the great Russian statesman's birth. Stolypin  served as the prime minister of the Russian Empire under Emperor Nicholas II from 1906 until his resignation in 1911.  Shortly after his resignation he was assassinated by revolutionary Dmitri Bogrov at the Kiev Opera House.
