Lavrenti Beria's Mansion (Tunisian Embasy)

The mansion in which the Tunisian Embassy is now located has a sinister history as it was once the home of Lavrenti Beria, the chief of Stalin's secret police.  It is alleged that Beria would drive around Moscow to select young girls to take back to his mansion to rape and that some girls were even murdered and buried in the mansion's garden;  human remains were found in the grounds in 2001 during a renovation. There are also several urban legends connected with embassy staff seeing ghosts there and feeling an evil presence.  After the death of Stalin, Beria made an attempt to take power but was outmanoeuvred by Khruschev, who then had Beria tried for spying for Britain and executed.
