Anton Chekhov House-Museum

The Anton Chekhov Museum is located in a small red house which was described by the writer as looking like a chest of drawers.  Chekhov lived and worked here from 1886 to 1890 when he set off for Sakhalin.  The house was opened as a museum in 1954.  Inside the museum Chekhov's study has been preserved and there are three halls dedicated to the life and work of the great writer.  Literary evenings and conferences are also held here.  The museum is run as a branch of the State Literary Museum.
