In 1982 the square at the crossroads of Lomonosovsky Prospekt and Prospekt Vernadskogo was renamed Ploschad Dzhavakharpala Neru (Jawaharlal Nehru Square) and a statue of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, was unveiled here in 1996.  It became the third statue of a Indian leader in this area following those of Indira Gandhi (Nehru's daughter) and Mahatma Gandhi which are located further down on Lomonosovsky Prospekt on Ploschad Indiry Gandi.
