Yuri Orlov Palaeontology Museum
The Yuri Orlov Palaeontology Museum is run as part of the Paleontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The museum was first opened in 1937 but then closed and evacuated to Kazakhstan during the Second World War. It was reopened after the war but once again closed in 1954 due to a lack of appropriate premises. It was only in 1987 that it was reopened after a new home was finally found for it in a specially-built building. It is named after the famous Russian palaeontologist Yuri Orlov. The museum consists of six large halls displaying prehistoric life over various geological periods with a large collection of fossils and dinosaur bones.
