Trinity Churches at Borisovskie Ponds
The Borisovskie Ponds are a continuation of the ponds within the Tsaritsyno Estate formed from the River Gorodnya. Standing to the south of one of the ponds, to the east of Kashirskoe Shosse, is the modern Trinity Church at Borisovskie Ponds. The church is dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus which was celebrated in 1988. In 1988 the first stone was laid as part of the project, but no construction work followed, mainly due to the decision to rebuild the Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Only in 2001 under Patriarch Alexius (Aleksi) II was the project restarted and the church was completed in 2004. It was built in the Byzantine Revival style with large flat and round domes.
Trinity Church at Borisovo
Further around the pond to the east is the confusingly-similar named Trinity Church at Borisovo. This Trinity Church dates from 1887 and is much simpler in style and smaller in scale. It consists of a small cubic building with a bell tower standing over its entrance. It was closed in the Soviet period and used as a car club. It was only reopened in 1991.
