The Olimpiysky or Olympic Stadium was opened in 1980 for the 1980 Summer Olympics which were held in Moscow. Next to the stadium is a separate swimming complex. For sporting events the stadium can hold up to 16,000 people but it can hold up to 25,000 people for concerts. Today the stadium is still used for sporting events as well as as a concert hall. In 2009 it was the venue of the Eurovision Song Contest.
