Situated between Slavyanskaya Ploschad (Slavic Square) and Ploschad Ilinskie Vorota (Ilinskie Gates Square) are the Ilinsky Gardens. At the southern end of the gardens on Slavyanskaya Ploschad (Slavic Square) is a statue of Ss Cyril and Methodius who brought Christianity to the Slavs and created the Cyrillic alphabet in the process. The statue was unveiled in 1992 and is the work of the sculptor Vyacheslav Vlykov.
