Opposite to the Belarusian Embassy is Ss Cosmas and Damian's Church which is now dwarfed by the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia which is located directly behind it. The current version of the church was built in the classical style between 1791 and 1793 according to the plan by Matvey Kazakov. The church was closed in the 1920s and was even threatened with destruction during the 1930s. It was eventually returned to the Orthodox Church in 1993.
