Ss Peter and Paul's Church in Novaya Basmannaya Sloboda
The surviving version of Ss Peter and Paul's Church in Novaya Basmannaya Sloboda was built between 1705 and 1728 to replace an earlier wooden version. The church was built in the Petrine baroque style, which is named after Peter the Great who commissioned the building of the church. It comprises an octagonal-on-cube main structure which a decorative bell tower attached to the front. After the Revolution the church was briefly used by the Renovationist Church but then completely closed in 1934. Although the church was restored in the 1960s for its architectural value, it was only reopened for worship in 1992.
