Bulat Okudzhava was a popular singer-songwriter who lived on the Old Arbat and also wrote several songs about the street. After his death in 1997 plans were made to create a memorial to him on the Old Arbat and this statue was unveiled in 2002 on what would have been his 78th birthday. The monument depicts the bard strolling along in front of two large arches.
