Yaroslavl Region
The Yaroslavl Region is located in the north of the Central Federal District and along with the Vladimir Region is one of the most interesting regions for tourists as many of its historical monuments have been preserved.
Three of its cities are considered major cities of the Golden Ring (Yaroslav, Rostov and Pereslavl-Zalessky) and the historic centre of Yaroslavl, the regional centre, is protected by UNESCO. However the historical cities of Borisoglebsky, Myshkin, Rybinsk, Tutaev and Uglich aslo have a lot to offer tourists. Many of these cities are connected via the Volga and are therefore popular destinations for cruise ships.
It is best to travel around the region by car or bus, but as the cities of Yaroslavl and Rybinsk are considered railway hubs travelling by train is also possible, especially when travelling to neighbouring regions.
