The Smolensk Art Gallery is housed in a pretty pink building which dates from 1905. The basis of the gallery’s collection is made up of Russian works of art by some of Russia's greatest artists. Also on display are ancient Russian icons from the Moscow, Pskov and Novgorod schools and wooden sculptures from the 15th to 18th centuries. The gallery is run as part of the Smolensk State Museum-Reserve.
