Prince Oleg Ivanovich of Ryazan was the most famous grand prince of Ryazan who was heavily involved in Russian politics in the second half of the 14th century, firstly siding with the Golden Horde against the increasingly powerful Moscow Principality and then making peace with Moscow. This monument to him is by the famous sculptor Zurab Tsereteli and was unveiled in 2007. It depicts Oleg on horseback dressed in armour with a sword in his hand.
