South of River Orlik
Strelka of the Oka and Orlik
The headland formed by the River Orlik flowing into the River Oka is known as the Strelka in Russian. At the end of the Strelka is a monument to the 400th anniversary of the city as it was here that the Oryol fortress was established in 1566. The monument takes the form of a 27 metre granite plinth. Next to this monument is a war memorial dedicated to the liberation of Oryol, comprising Victory personified and two soldiers. It is a favourite spot for newly-weds.
