Timofey Granovsky was a historian specialising in the mediaeval era and was born in Oryol in 1813. The wooden mansion where he was born has since become the Timofey Granovsky House-Museum which details the work of the prominent historian and his views as a leading Westerniser. The museum is run as part of the Ivan Turgenev State Literary Museum.
