Mikhail Bakhtin was a Russian philosopher and linguist who was born in Oyrol in 1895. In 2005 a museum dedicated to the life and work of Mikhail Bakhtin was opened on the site where the estate of Bakhtin's family once stood and where Bakhtin was born. The museum displays personal items of the philosopher as well as photographs of him and of Oryol at that time.
