Getting to/from Kaluga
Kaluga is not that far from Moscow and has good transport links with the capital making it rather simple to visit as a day trip. However Kaluga also makes a good base for visiting other places in the Kaluga Region, such as Kozelsk, Borovsk, Maloyaroslavets and Tarusa.
From Moscow
The best way to get there is via the Moscow Kievsky - Kaluga-1 Express Train which also stops at Obninsk, Maloyaroslavets and Balabanovo. It leaves from Moscow's Kievsky Railway Station and arrives at Kaluga-1 Railway Station. There are several trains a day in both directions and take about 2¾ hours. It is a comfortable train and tickets should be bought as if for a long distrance train. In addition to the express train there are also standard suburban (elektrichka) trains which run more frequently but take longer (3¼ hours). Practically all long distance trains between Moscow and Kaluga stop in Kaluga at inconvenient times. Schedules can be found in Russian on Yandex Timetables: Moscow - Kaluga & Kaluga - Moscow
Buses also run from Moscow's Tyoply Stan Bus Station to Kaluga Bus Station. Buses run almost every hour and take about 3½ hours.
