Memorial-Temple to Russian Soldiers who Fell at the Conquest of Kazan
The pyramid located on an island in the River Kazanka and connected to the Kirovskaya Dam by a small mound is a Memorial-Temple to Russian Soldiers who Fell during the Conquest of Kazan. Before the area was flooded in Soviet times to create the Kuibyshevskoe Reservoir the temple stood on the top of a hill, which served as a mass grave for the Russian soldiers who died during the siege and subsequent conquest of Kazan in 1552. The temple which contains a crypt inside was consecrated in 1823.
