Blue (Golubaya) Mosque
The Blue Mosque is also referred to as the Fourth Congressional Mosque. It is known as the Blue Mosque as it was traditionally blue in colour. It was built in the classical style between 1815 and 1819 and further extended in 1864 and 1907. The mosque was closed in 1932 and its minaret was removed shortly afterwards. Throughout the Soviet period it was used as housing, only being reopened as a mosque in 1993. It was not until 2009 that its minaret was restored.
