Äcem (Azimovskaya) Mosque
The Äcem Mosque is also known as the Azimovskaya Mosque from its Russian name and as the Sixth Congressional Mosque. It is a fine example of Tatar religious architecture. It was built between 1867 and 1890 on the site of an old wooden mosque using the funds of local merchant Mortaza Äcimev (Murtaza Azimov). It comprises one large hall attached to a beautifully ornate minaret, standing at 51 metres tall. The mosque was closed between 1930 and 1992.
