Aleksandr Butlerov Monument
Located at the entrance of Leninsky Sad (Lenin Gardens) off Ulitsa Pushkina is a statue of the Russian chemist Aleksandr Butlerov. Butlerov was born in Chistopol in the Kazansky Governorate in 1828 and after completing Kazan University went on to become one of the principle creators of the chemical structure theory. In addition, a street in Kazan is also named in his honour. Also to be found in Leninsky Sad is a simple memorial to victims of political repression.
