On the bank of the River Sura stands a monument which has become a calling card of Penza. It is known as the Rostok Monument which means a shoot as the monument resembles a shoot emerging from the ground. It is dedicated to the military and labour feats of the people. Letters to future generations have been bricked up inside the monument's granite slab.
