Just behind the war memorial stands Archangel Michael's Chapel which was consecrated in 2000 and which held shortly afterwards a special service for all of Penza's war dead. It was constructed in the ancient cross-in-square Russian style of church architecture with barrel vaults and topped with a single dome.
