Hunt for the Northern Lights

Night tour Natural sights From September to April

Murmansk is one of the best places in Russia for seeing the Northern Lights. This natural light show is formed when charged participles from the Sun collide with participles in the Earth’s atmosphere. The displays start from the end of August and last till April, although they are not visible every day due to the following factors:

  1. The weather - if it is cloudy you won’t see the Northern lights. Therefore you will have to check the weather forecast  before your trip.
  2. The Sun’s activity - the intensity at which the Sun releases participles is not uniform, and these participles are needed to light up the skies.

  3. The light pollution - you need to get away from the artificial lights of the city as you will only been able to notice the lights against dark skies.

Our professional guides have a great deal of experience and know the surrounding areas perfectly, allowing them to work out the best place to be to catch a glimpse of Aurora Borealis. During the tour you will also be accompanied by a professional photographer who knows how best to take a clear photo of you with the Northern Lights as a backdrop.

Murmansk

The hunt for the Northern Lights can take between three and five hours as the weather conditions constantly change (especially the cloud cover) because of the influence of the Arctic Ocean. Therefore you should be prepared to travel from one place to another. Some tours can cover 200km in search of the best place for viewing the lights.

As there is no controlling the Northern Lights, we cannot offer you a 100% guarantee that you will seen them, but if they are visible on the chosen night at any point around Murmansk, our expert guides will take you there.
