Republic of Adygea

The Republic of Adygea is completely surrounded by the Krasnodar Territory.  The republic is named after and represents the homeland of the Adyghe people - western Circassians who speak the Adyghe language.

Maikop

The capital of the republic is the city of Maikop, which is possible to reach by minibus from Krasnodar. The region’s territory is made up of two types of landscapes: the north is known for its ravines while the south is located on the foothills of the Caucasus mountains - part of the Western Caucasus UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The republic is also famous for the slightly salty Adygeysky cheese which is produced here and sold all over Russia.
