Situated in Kirovsky Gardens is the city's main war memorial. It was unveiled in 1968 and consists of three plinths depicting the names of 173 heroes of the Soviet Union from Vologda and the surrounding areas. At the bottom of the plinths is a bar-relief depicting the faces of a soldier, partisan, sailor and pilot.
