Nikolai Gogol Monument
The small boulevard between Ulitsa Bolshaya Konyushennaya and Naberezhnaya kanala Griboedova is known as Ulitsa Malaya Konyushennaya and features several monuments, the most famous of which is the Nikolai Gogol monument. The famous Russian/Ukrainian author is closely associated with St Petersburg as he lived and worked here and wrote a cycle of short stories set in St Petersburg which often focused on the then capital's corruption, class system and bureaucracy. The statue was unveiled in 1997 and depicts the author in a typical gloomy pose.
