On 2-y Admiralteysky Island
State Museum of the History of Religion
The State Museum of the History of Religion was opened in 1932 in the Our Lady of Kazan Cathedral. It was renamed the State Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism in 1954, but returned to its original name after the fall of the Soviet Union. It moved to its present day location in 2000 and the Our Lady of Kazan Cathedral was once again reopened for worship. Today the museum has rich collections of religious artefacts of various faiths and details the religions of the East and West and of early civilisations.
