Just outside Moskovsky Railway Station in the centre of Ploschad Vosstania (Uprising Square) is an obelisk in celebration of St Petersburg's status as a Hero City, which was awarded in 1965 when the city was known as Leningrad. The obelisk was erected in 1985 on the 40th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the war. The words 'Hero-City Leningrad' are written in large letters on top of the building behind the obelisk.
