Moskovsky Victory Park

Moskovsky Victory Park is the largest memorial park in St Petersburg dedicated to the Soviet Victory in the Second World War. It was opened in July 1946 on the sight of a demolished brick factory which was used as a makeshift crematorium during the Siege of Leningrad. Hundreds of thousands of bodies were cremated here. The central alley in the park is known as the Alley of Heroes and it features several busts of heroes of the Soviet Union who came from Leningrad, as well as statues of Marshal Zhukov, Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya and Aleksandr Matrosov. There are several other memorials located around the park and in 2009 an orthodox chapel was built on the site of the factory-crematorium. In addition the park also features a sports complex and you can ice-skate here in winter.
