Transfiguration of the Saviour Church in the City

The Transfiguration of the Saviour Church is often referred to as the Saviour in the City (Spas-na-Gorody) to distinguish it from the Transfiguration of the Saviour Cathedral located in the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. It was built in 1672 using St John Chrysostom’s Church at Korovniki as a guide. In form it is very similar with a four-tiered building topped with five green domes and with a tower and a bell tower on each side. However, unlike St John Chrysostom’s Church, this church has been covered in plaster and painted white.
