Presentation of Virgin Mary Church

Presentation of Virgin Mary Church (November 2010)

The Presentation of Virgin Mary Church was built between 1770 and 1780 in the baroque style to replace an earlier version of the church which burned down. In form it is the standard 'octagon-on-cube' with an attached bell tower. The Russian author Ivan Bunin, who was born in Voronezh, was baptised here. In the 1920s the church's relics were removed and it was eventually closed in the 1930s. In 1990 the church was returned to the Orthodox Church and re-consecrated in 1999 after it had been restored.
