Borodino Museum

The Borodino Museum is located in the centre of the Borodino Field and was opened in 1912 on the 100th anniversary of the battle. During the Second World War it was occupied by the Nazis and used as a slaughterhouse until they burned it to the ground. Luckily the exhibitions had already been evacuated by the Soviets and the museum was reopened in October 1944. The museum has exhibitions on Napoleon's invasion of Russia, the Battle of Borodino and the Napoleonic Wars in general. In the square outside the museum are busts of Mikhail Barclay de Tolly, Pyort Bagration and Mikhail Kutuzov as well as several cannons.
