Behind the museums at the back of Museum Square among its parks, is a memorial to the citizens of Belgorod who fell during the 1979-1989 Soviet-Afghan War. The memorial comprises four arches in the centre of which is a sculpture of Christ being crucified on the cross. On the top of the front arch is a small bell.
