Novosibirsk is Russia’s third city by population and the largest in Asian Russia. It was founded in 1893 during the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway where the railroad crosses the River Ob. Today the city has become an important transport hub, scientific research base and industrial centre. It is also a popular stop on the Trans-Siberian.
